Beatenberg suprised us all in this years SAMA’s scooping a number of awards mainly being album of the year , duo of the year and the best pop album accolade, gracefully standing above fellow Capetonian Jimmy Nevis and pop group Monark.

Taking the idea of creativity to a new element was “best alternative” nominee Bye Beneco, “who arrived in matching plastic camouflage-coloured outfits and gold nose rings.” – (according to The Timeslive)

But lets not deviate from the main focus as the main aim of the the night was to pay attention to the winners and losers of the night. The rap album of the year award was one of the most highly contested accolade & it went to none other than Skhanda Republic by KO.

3x SAMA award winner Kiernan Jordan Forbes (AKA) won male artist of the year at the dear mercy of hip-hop rival Cassper Nyovest.

Bucie and her amaizing vocal talents managed to land herself the female artist of the year award. Riana Nel, who got the award for the best Afrikaans pop album stood above all odds waving the flag for Afrikaans music.

And lets not forget to acknowledge the lifetime achievement awards that were handed to Zim Ngqawana, Mdu Masilela and Mandla “Spikiri” Mofokeng .

Other winners included the following:

Best dance album: Black Motion;

Best Collaboration: KO, featuring Kid X for Caracara;
